The Tale of Chang'e and the Moon Goddess
In the vast expanse of Chinese mythology, there exist numerous stories that have captivated audiences for centuries. One such tale is that of Chang'e, the Moon Goddess who dwells on the celestial body named after her - Chang'e.
Chang'e's Early Life
According to "China Mythology: 100 Stories in English," Chang'e was once a mortal woman who lived during China's Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE). She was known for her extraordinary beauty and kind heart. Her name, which translates to "everlasting or perpetual," reflects her enduring spirit.
One day, while wandering through a forest, she discovered an elixir of immortality hidden within a peach tree. Unbeknownst to her at first, this magical fruit would change her life forever.
The Elixir Incident
As soon as she consumed the elixir, it became apparent that its power was beyond anything she had imagined. The beverage granted her immortality but also separated herself from mortal men by ascending into heaven.
In grief over leaving behind those she loved most in life - including her husband and son - Chang'e wandered across various realms until finally finding solace among celestial beings in heaven.
Mingyue: The Moon Goddess
Upon reaching heavenly abodes with the aid of an immortal rabbit named Yutu (the Jade Rabbit), who serves as both companion and guardian angel to Chang'e today; it became clear that this celestial being would be revered as one among gods by mortals below them all time called upon everlastingly now and then since then has been honored with reverence from generation to generation everlastingly because they see him/her doing things like eating mushrooms under their watchful eye even though he/she knows what they're really up too!
From thenceforth known as Mingyue (Moonlight) or more commonly just referred simply 'Moon Goddess,' many people believe this goddess can cure illness when prayed properly along with granting wishes if you truly believe in your own destiny!
