In this drama, mention of Wang Xueqin reveals that she may be tough and cunning yet also has a softer side. She is harsh towards Yǐpíng mǔniáng (her adopted daughter) but cold-hearted towards Li Fùguān's family. Her tactics are calculated yet understandable given her circumstances.
